Fue el primer libro que escrib\u00ed ambientado \u00edntegramente en Escocia y explora el impacto de la Segunda Guerra Mundial en las vidas de los personajes de una peque\u00f1a y remota comunidad de las Highlands<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00bfQu\u00e9 encontrar\u00e1 el lector en ella?<\/em><br>Es una novela de doble l\u00ednea temporal, que cruza generaciones, en la que Lexie regresa al hogar que abandon\u00f3 a\u00f1os antes y descubre secretos familiares, lo que le permite comprender mejor a su madre, la comunidad y, en \u00faltima instancia, su propio lugar en el mundo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Nuestra revista es una revista literaria, por lo que nos vemos obligados a preguntarle cu\u00e1l fue el primer libro que ley\u00f3.<\/em><br>Siempre he sido una lectora \u00e1vida y no recuerdo cu\u00e1l fue el primer libro que le\u00ed, \u00a1seguramente a una edad muy temprana! Pero recuerdo que un profesor del colegio nos ley\u00f3 <em>El Hobbit<\/em>, de JRR Tolkein, cuando yo s\u00f3lo ten\u00eda 6 a\u00f1os; probablemente fue la primera novela que conoc\u00ed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00bfQu\u00e9 impacto tuvo en usted?<\/em><br>La historia me cautiv\u00f3 por completo. Me enganch\u00f3 a la lectura, una pasi\u00f3n que me ha acompa\u00f1ado desde entonces. Aunque no empec\u00e9 mi carrera de escritora hasta los 50 a\u00f1os, a menudo le\u00eda un libro y pensaba: \u00abOjal\u00e1 hubiera podido escribir algo as\u00ed\u00bb. \u00a1Por fin lo estoy haciendo!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Empec\u00e9 a escribir en Francia, donde viv\u00ed siete a\u00f1os, inspir\u00e1ndome mucho en la historia de ese pa\u00eds, especialmente en los a\u00f1os de la Segunda Guerra Mundial<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00bfQui\u00e9n es su escritor favorito?<\/em><br>Creo que mi autora favorita de todos los tiempos es Jane Austen. Es tan buena observando y retratando la naturaleza humana con sutileza y humor. Mi autora viva favorita es Barbara Kingsolver. Sus libros son absorbentes e informativos, llenos de personajes convincentes. Sin duda ha sido una gran inspiraci\u00f3n para mis propios escritos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00bfQu\u00e9 ha influido en su trabajo como autora?<\/em><br>Estoy segura de que leer mucho ha contribuido a dar forma a mi trabajo, pero la mayor fuente de inspiraci\u00f3n es simplemente vivir la vida. Salir a la calle y vivir experiencias, mirar en profundidad, escuchar con atenci\u00f3n, es lo m\u00e1s importante que puede hacer un autor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/revistaliterariaelgatonegro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/El-regalo-de-la-modista-700x1027.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15800\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00bfA qu\u00e9 personaje de un libro le hubiera gustado conocer?<\/em><br>Creo que tendr\u00eda que ser Scout Finch, de <em>Matar a un p\u00e1jaro burl\u00f3n<\/em>. Su inocencia infantil, honestidad y claridad de visi\u00f3n la convierten en un personaje maravilloso, ya que la historia de injusticia racial se desarrolla a trav\u00e9s de sus ojos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00bfA qu\u00e9 personaje hist\u00f3rico le hubiera gustado conocer?<\/em><br>Josephine Baker. Escrib\u00ed sobre ella en mi libro <em> El Cuentacuentos de Casablanca<\/em> y es una de mis hero\u00ednas de todos los tiempos. Fue una famosa cantante e int\u00e9rprete en Par\u00eds, que actu\u00f3 como esp\u00eda durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, pasando informaci\u00f3n de contrabando a los Aliados. Despu\u00e9s de la guerra, hizo campa\u00f1a por los derechos civiles junto a Martin Luther King Jr. en su Am\u00e9rica natal. Como no pod\u00eda tener hijos propios, adopt\u00f3 a una docena de ni\u00f1os de distintos or\u00edgenes a los que llam\u00f3 su Tribu del Arco Iris. Tuve la suerte de conocer a uno de ellos, Brian Baker, en Marruecos. Realmente era una persona incre\u00edble, la primera mujer de color que ingres\u00f3 en el Pante\u00f3n de Par\u00eds en reconocimiento a su valent\u00eda durante la guerra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\"> <strong>La mayor fuente de inspiraci\u00f3n es simplemente vivir la vida. Pero eso no ocurre muy a menudo, as\u00ed que leo en la cama por la noche, antes de dormirme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00bfPuede hablarnos de su pr\u00f3ximo proyecto?<\/em><br>Mi \u00faltimo libro,  <em>The sky beneath us<\/em>, acaba de publicarse, as\u00ed que me ha tenido muy ocupada \u00faltimamente. Est\u00e1 ambientado en Nepal y, durante la investigaci\u00f3n, me adentr\u00e9 durante cuatro d\u00edas en el Himalaya para vivir en una comunidad sherpa tradicional. Fue una experiencia incre\u00edble y desafiante. Ahora estoy escribiendo otro libro ambientado en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, en el que retomo algunos personajes de una novela anterior titulada <em>Mar de Recuerdos<\/em>. I\u2019m delighted to chat with my Spanish readers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Fiona is an acclaimed bestselling author whose books have sold millions of copies and have been translated into over thirty different languages around the world, but what can you tell us about yourself? Who is Fiona?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I live in Scotland, in the hills beside the River Tay, where I love to swim every morning (all year round, even in freezing January!). I began writing in France, where I lived for seven years, finding much inspiration from the history of that country \u2013 especially from the years of World War 2 which were so devastating for Europe. In 2014 I moved back to Scotland, my home country, and love living here. I do still travel a lot, though, mostly in search of stories and sunshine, both of which are essential ingredients in life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>  The skylark&#8217;s secret  is the latest book you have published in Spain, what can you tell us about it?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was a very special book for me. I\u2019d had no idea the loch had been the mustering point for these naval convoys which sailed far up into the Arctic Circle, running the gauntlet of attacks from airplanes, submarines and warships from Nazi-occupied Norway as they delivered essential supplies to the Russian front. Almost overnight, a tiny, rural community of 300 people was transformed into a strategic military base of over 3,000 inhabitants from across the world. I was fascinated by that and wanted to tell a story set against that background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The Secret of the Skylark is a very special book for me. It was the first book I wrote set entirely in Scotland and explores the impact of the Second World War on the lives of characters in a small, remote Highland community<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What will the reader find in it?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a dual-timeline novel, crossing generations, as Lexie returns to the home she left years before and discovers family secrets, giving her a better understanding of her mother, the community and \u2013 ultimately \u2013 her own place in the w<em>orld.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Our magazine is a literary magazine, so we are obliged to ask you what was the first book you read?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve always been an avid reader and can\u2019t remember which was the very first book I read \u2013 it would have been at a very early age! But I do remember a teacher at school reading JRR Tolkein\u2019s THE HOBBIT to us when I was just 6 years old \u2013 that was probably the first novel I encountered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>And what was its impact on you?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was completely enchanted by the story. It got me hooked on reading, a passion which has continued ever since. Even though I didn\u2019t begin my career as a writer until I was 50 years old, I\u2019d often read a book and think \u2018I wish I could have written something like that.\u2019 At last I am doing so!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\"><strong>I started writing in France, where I lived for seven years, inspired by the history of that country, especially the years of the Second World War<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Who is your favourite writer?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think my favourite auhtor of all time has to be Jane Austen. She is so good at observing and portraying human nature with subtlety and humour. My favourite living author is Barbara Kingsolver. Her books are both engrossing and informative, filled with compelling characters. She has definitely been a big inspiration in my own writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>And what has influenced your work as an author?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reading widely has helped shape my work, I\u2019m sure, but the biggest source of inspiration is simply living life. Her childish innocence, honesty and clarity of vision make her a wonderful car\u00e1cter as the story of racial injustice unfolds through her eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Which historical figure would you have liked to have met?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Josephine Baker. I wrote about her in my book  <em>The storyteller of Casablanca<\/em> and she is one of my all-time heroines. She was a famous singer and performer in Paris, who operated as a spy during World War 2, smuggling information to the Allies. After the war, she campaigned for Civil Rights alongside Martin Luther King Jr. back in her native America. She couldn\u2019t have children of her own, so she adopted a dozen kids from different backgrounds whom she called her Rainbow Tribe. I was lucky enough to meet one of them \u2013 Brian Baker \u2013 in Morocco. She really was an amazing person, the first woman of colour to be inducted into the Pantheon in Paris in recognition of her courage during the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The greatest source of inspiration is simply living life. To go out and experience, to look deeply, to listen attentively<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What is your favourite place and time to write?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m definitely a morning person, so I tend to do most of my work then. I sit in a room I had built onto my house a few years ago, which has big windows looking out towards the hills. In Winter, I light a woodburning stove to keep warm. There is often an old black cat surled up in front of it. My very own Gato Negro!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What is your favourite time and place to read?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ideally when I\u2019m away on a holiday somewhere, preferably lying on a sun-lounger on a warm beach! That doesn\u2019t happen very often though, so otherwise I read in bed at night, before I fall asleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Can you tell us about your next project?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My latest book <em>The sky beneath us<\/em> has just been published, so that\u2019s been keeping me very busy recently. It\u2019s set in Nepal and I trekked there for four days into the high Himalayas to live in a traditional Sherpa community when I was researching it. That was an incredible and challenging experience! I\u2019m now writing another book set during World War 2, revisiting some characters from a previous novel called <em> Sea of memories<\/em>.
