Conocido por ser co-autor de varias novelas de suspense junto a Lincoln Child que se han convertido en Best-sellers internacionales. Preston comenz\u00f3 su trabajo de escritor en el Museo Norteamericano de Historia Natural. Adem\u00e1s de sus colaboraciones con Child, ha escrito dos novelas y varios libros de tem\u00e1tica cient\u00edfica que se ocupan fundamentalmente de la historia del sudoeste norteamericano. Before we begin, we&#8217;d like to thank you for giving us this interview.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-666737ac284bad4aea3049d8179bc249\"><strong>Douglas has published 39 books of fiction and non-fiction, 32 of which have been New York Times bestsellers. In addition, he writes about archaeology and paleontology for the New Yorker magazine. He has worked as an editor for the American Museum of Natural History in New York and taught writing at Princeton University. He has received numerous writing awards in the United States and Europe. But what can you tell us about yourself? Who is Douglas?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve been telling stories all my life. I wrote my first novel with a friend when I was ten, called <em>Animal Valley<\/em>, populated by all the pets in our neighborhood. In Animal Valley all the pets lived an alternative existence, spoke like people andhad adventures. That book is, alas, long lost. I feel lucky to be able to tell stories that interest other people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a5bff06667cdcac70a40be31537075e6\"><strong><em>Fourteen Days<\/em> is the last book you wrote, what can you tell us about the book?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Margaret Atwood and I were the general editors, and I wrote the \u201cframe narrative\u201d of it. Thirty six fabulous and talented authors collaborated on this novel, including John Grisham, Diana Gabaldon, Scott Turow, Luis Alberto Urrea, RL Stine, Mary Pope Osborne, and many others. A week into the covid shutdown, the tenants in a shabby New York tenement begin to gather on the rooftop of their building and tell stories\u2014about their lives and loves, war and peace, ghost stories, confessions, murders\u2014all kinds of stories, each written by a different famous author. Gradually, the tenants, who barely knew each other before covid, come to learn about each other and form a community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d331f53c6bd4b7640e326b7ea925bc12\"><strong>What will the reader find?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A dazzling, heartwarming, and amazing narrative that speaks to the resilience of human nature in the face of a world-wide pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4ba4d490416761d2eacd96c29fdf78bd\"><strong>Our magazine is a literary magazine, so we are obliged to ask you what was the first book you read?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first book I recall reading that really affected me was The Curious Lobster by Richard Hatch. It was a funny, charming, and sweet book set in Maine, where I lived, about a lobster, his friends, and the curious adventures the lobster had when he had the courage to go out of the water and explore the land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7c5ef5334e5d3ce7f57649363bb6dacb\"><strong>And what was its impact on you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It made me want to write books like it. I started writing Animal Valley after I read The Curious Lobster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-07df41f8f0bbbca24c65b43d6ef34611\"><strong>Who is your favourite writer?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have many. But I would have to put Tolstoy up there at the top, along with Mark Twain, Wilkie Collins, A. I write best in the early afternoon.
